Finding a time that works

Let’s talk about availability.

I offer appointments in Salisbury and online. Please get in touch to ask about current spaces and let me know the days or times that might work for you.

I aim to reply within 2–3 working days.

Before your first session

I’ll discuss our working agreement with you, including payment, cancellations and rescheduling, so you have the practical information you need before we begin.

Some questions you may have?

What happens in the first session?

We will explore how we might work together, our working agreement, and any questions you may have. I will also open up some space, if you feel comfortable, for you to begin exploring a rough outline of what has brought you to counselling. You can share at your own pace, and there is no pressure in the first session, or any session. The beginning of our work will focus on building safety, trust, communication, and understanding between us.

Do I need to know exactly what to talk about?

No. You might have a particular experience in mind, or a feeling that is difficult to put into words. I will help you to explore where you are, and I do not expect you to arrive with it all figured out. That being said, if you feel you know exactly where you might like to start, this is also okay and we can explore this together.

How many sessions will I need?

There isn’t one answer for all. I offer both shorter and longer term work. We can discuss what you need, your availability, costs, and how often we might meet. We will review how the work is feeling at regular intervals, and I will check in with you regularly with how you feel the work is going. If you have a specific amount of time in mind, say 2 months, or 6 sessions, we can discuss this together and explore how we might work to this timeframe.

Can we meet online?

Yes. I offer online sessions using Microsoft Teams, as well as in-person sessions in Salisbury.

I work shifts, do you offer flexible availability?

Yes, this would be on a case by case basis and it may be that I can’t in all circumstances. To find out more about session times I may be able to offer and for any questions you might have, please get in touch.

How will I know who is the right counsellor for me?

My experience has shown me, and research consistently proves, that the counselling relationship is one of the most important factors of a positive outcome.

The right counsellor for you will be specific to you, and what you hope for in counselling. Hopefully my website has given you a good idea of the type of counselling I offer, and what it would look like to work with me.

This is something we can explore further at our initial call, I would be happy to answer any of your questions and offer a clear understanding of how we might work together. This call is free of charge, and commitment, If you decide after that I am not the right counsellor for you, I will of course respect your decision.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes, I treat what you share with care. Confidentiality has ethical, legal and safeguarding limits, which I’ll explain as part of our counselling agreement before we begin. You can ask me about these at any point.

Can I discuss access needs before booking?

Of course. Please let me know what would help you attend comfortably. I’ll discuss the room and access arrangements with you before you decide whether in-person or online sessions are right for you.

What if I want to stop counselling?

You can bring this up at any time. I’ll respect your decision, and we can talk about how to bring our work to a close in a way that feels helpful to you.
