I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. To attain this I trained for 4 years with 2 years of voluntary counselling experience.
I am a registered member of The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). The BACP is a membership body with whom I am registered, meaning I have completed the relevant training and meet the standards required to work as a counsellor. This means as long as I am working within my competency I am able to work with you.
Part of being a member of the BACP means I have a requirement to undergo continuing professional development. Throughout the year I am regularly undertaking courses and researching areas I feel most relevant to my practice. This keeps me informed, up to date, and enables me to be the best practitioner I can be.

The counselling process is unique and different for each individual.
How many sessions you might need will depend on your goals and hopes for what you might like to achieve, improve or understand in counselling.
This is something I will explore with you at the beginning of counselling and will continue to check in on throughout.
If you wish to further explore this with me further, you can contact me and I will do my best to help you with this.

My experience has shown me ,and research consistently proves that, the counselling relationship is one of the most important factors of a positive outcome.
The right counsellor for you will be specific to you and what you hope for in counselling.
I explain in my ‘How I work’ section, what sort of counselling I offer. This should give you a good idea of the service I offer and whether it feels like it might work for you.
It is important that you feel comfortable, safe and able to connect with your counsellor. This is something you might not know until you speak to or have a few sessions with a counsellor. But in the meantime, gut feelings can be useful to recognise.
I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation for you to speak with me, see how you might feel about working with me, and for any questions you have about the counselling.
I will not take it personally if you feel, after a our initial call or few sessions, that you feel I am not the right counsellor for you. This is about your journey, not mine.

Yes, this would be on a case by case basis and it may be that I can’t in all circumstances.

Before our first session, we will have an initial consultation which you can book here.
If you then decide to progress and have counselling sessions with me, we will have our first session.
In this session I will explore my counselling contract with you and the boundaries for our work. This will not be a monologue, but a dialogue. Together we will explore how we might work, and what might be the best way of working for you.
We might explore what brings you to counselling and what you hope to achieve in counselling. This session will not dive straight into the deepest depths of your world. Rather, it acts as a beginning. Where we will explore how we will work, what we might work on, and for you to get a feel for the counselling.
The beginning of our work will focus on building understanding, safety and communication between us. This first session marks the beginning of this process.
It is my hope that after our first session, you will leave feeling you have a better understanding of how the counselling will be, and feel more comfortable in the counselling space.
